Tyler Studio is a center for my creativity and innovation. It is more than just a gallery. My dreams in life, my dedication for personal and professional fulfillment are all centered here. Tyler Studio incorporates my passion for the fine arts and houses my life’s work. My art is influenced by the disciplines of impressionism, as well as realism,. I strive to capture the effect of light on everyday life scenes and themes. The sheer act of immersing myself in the painting, and interpreting the effects of the atmosphere on ordinary objects brings me to a place of peace and harmony.

Tyler Studio is the culmination of my determination and will to realize my dreams. It is also a place where individuals, from young to old, can discover their passion for the visual arts and make the steps necessary to master the craft. The studio also allows me to provide a place of great comfort, serenity, and personal realization. Inspired by the Parisian Gertrude Stein Salon of the early 1900s, Tyler Studio is a welcoming and nurturing environment where artists and art lovers can convene and immerse themselves in their journey of self-discovery.

Located in Centerville, TX, Tyler Studio is situated and surrounded by 40 acres of enchanting Post Oak Savannah, an ideal environment for those who want to develop their creative capabilities. If you seek to dive into a world of tranquility and calm and escape the hustle and bustle of the outside world, I welcome you to join me and allow me to assist you in unearthing the peace you’ve been searching for with the help of the fine arts, here at Tyler Studio.

About Susan

The Woman Behind the Canvas

They say that when you have a passion for your profession, then you will never have to work a single day in your life again. I learned that lesson very early on. I also learned that sometimes the road towards obtaining fulfillment is not so straightforward. There are twists and turns, just like the way art is created with the use of a paintbrush, that tends to steer you away in a different direction. I was 3 credit hours away from obtaining my BFA at Sam Houston State University when life’s circumstances got in the way; these obstacles (life’s gifts) presented themselves as barriers in my journey. Once I regained control of my destiny, the world was now my personal canvas. It was a blank canvas, where I could bring to life my vision.

Susan Tyler

Before I dedicated myself solely to my art and helping others discover their artistic talents, I was assisting individuals from a different perspective. For 35 years, I placed my dedication and passion into helping others heal physically. In 1978, I graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a BSN in Nursing. By the time I graduated, I was a mother with two young children; 2 boys, ages 7 and 9. A few years later, in 1984, I obtained a master’s degree in Geriatric Nursing with a certification as a Geriatric Nurse Practitioner. For the following 30 years, I dedicated myself in providing health care to older adults at the Memorial Geriatric Center, which I co-founded, and at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, where some of my artwork is currently displayed. I was part of a team that opened an ACE unit for the elderly at UTMB. The unit has been nationally recognized for its innovation in the care of the hospitalized elderly. When Hurricane IKE hit, the UTMB hospital was closed for over a year. I am very proud of the role I played in the UTMB clinics. For over a year the clinics were the only part of UTMB that was able to provide healthcare to their patients. It was a turn of events that many of us will never forget.

After retiring from nursing in 2015, I decided to fulfill a dream of mine that was left dormant for decades. With dedication and purpose, I was able to build my gallery, Tyler Studio and create an environment where my artistry could shine in more ways than one. Inspired by the work of the impressionists and post impressionists, I have dedicated my life’s work to create pieces that inspire tranquility, peace and serenity through artwork that commemorates everyday life; the everyday people, places and things that make life wonderful. My studio also provides the space available for those who are discovering the world of the visual arts and I assist those who are searching to master art techniques, young and old. I am proud to say that I am living my life’s purpose. I hope I can continue to inspire others in searching for a purpose through the innovative world of the visual arts.
