The Viet Nam war was an awful chapter in our history. Like all wars … lives are stolen, loves are lost, and possibilities are only dreams. The Viet Nam war devastated our country and the world. The families, the children and the friends of the war suffer still today. My family like so many has been deeply effected by long tendrils of that terrible war.
A Viet Nam vet asked me to paint an image of the Viet Nam Monument–The Wall. He had a photograph that he asked me to work with. It was an image of the Wall with a beautiful spray of flowers standing in front of it. It also had some reflections of the visitors walking away from the wall.
I was not sure that I could do the concept justice. That was over a year ago. When faced with a daunting task as I always do, I think about it, and think about it. The more I thought about it the more I realized that I had very strong personal feelings that I had to deal with and process. It became a spiritual journey for me. I put myself at the wall and my thoughts began to form into the image that you see above.
